My semester project is focusing on use of digital technology by Native Americans to write dissent and build identity. I was introduced to the concept of postcolonial resistance through Louise Erdrich‘s novel Tracks and especially through the trickster character of Nanapush. This trickster character takes on the tools of his colonizer in the form of reading and writing and uses these tools to bring Lulu back to her community from the Indian boarding school. While many indigenous peoples face the challenge of staying informed and connected when living off-reservation, digital “tools” can help them to stay informed and connected with their tribes, and also with the greater Indigenous community. Cowboy Indian Alliance.
